There are many assumptions as to how the wrapper plays a part in the experience that the cigar gives the smoker. So, today we thought we would give you a quick guide on how you can test the flavour of your cigar wrapper.

ASSUMPTIONS – Now, like many aspects of the cigar world, there’s plenty of different opinions on how much of an impact the wrapper will make. Some will say that that the wrapper is a huge part of the flavour, some will say it’s a little part of the flavour. Commonly, people tend to assume that the colour of the wrapper is an indication of the strength – with the darker wrappers being stronger and the lighter ones being less intense. But the truth is, like most things when it comes to cigars – it’s completely subjective. It’ll depend on everything else about the cigar, such as the size, the blend and even the person smoking it.
WRAPPER FLAVOUR TEST –This simple method is a great way for you to see whether the wrapper of your cigar makes a difference for yourself. It’ll give you an insight into whether the actual filler is lighter or heavier and the level of influence that the wrapper has. Just follow these 3 easy steps:
STEP 1 – Take your trusty cigar cutter – the S.T. Dupont Maxijet Cutter is one of our favourites – and place it around an inch or less into the cigar.
STEP 2 – Next, lightly score the wrapper – ensure you don’t chop the end of your smoke of. You can then carefully pull the wrapper away, leaving the filler and the binder exposed.
STEP 3 – Lastly just spark up your smoke with a cigar lighter, such as the S.T. Dupont Ligne 2 Lighter – Blue. The first load of flavour will give you an idea of how the blend tastes before the wrapper comes into play. You’ll then be able to compare how the cigar tastes with and without the wrapper.
